<== An Outsider Look at HIVE ==>

Hive Now

Hive Now is a blockchain explorer by @PenguinPablo. A blockchain explorer lists blockchain transactions. If you append your account name to the URL; you will be able to see your transactions. This link goes to my page:

hive-now.com/@irivers

HiveNow categorizes one's actions. This helps users see the impact of their activity on HIVE.

@irivers is a brand new account. As I read the account in late June 2021, I see that I have received only one author reward. I have $.0.37 in pending awards. This is do mainly to the account @yintercept which keeps voting on my posts ... for some odd reason.

My resource credits are low because I have only 2 HP. You will also notice that I am not upvoting with the account. This is because the rewards for my upvote are just too small. One needs HIVE POWER to upvote.

The Upvote Calculator

This brings me to my favorite feature of HiveNow. The site has a utility called an Upvote Calculator.

The value of an upvote is determined by the price of HIVE as reported by the witnesses, the size of the rewards pool and one's voting percent. The reported price of HIVE is often wrong.

When I viewed this on 6/23/2021, the price of HIVE was $0.25, the Reward Pool was 861,272. The upvote calculator showed that the upvote for an account with 10,000 HP was worth $0.0932.

I love this upvote calculatur because it lets users understand how voting on HIVE works.

The HIVE rewards come from inflation on HIVE; So, lets say that a person bought 10,000 for $0.25. That would be a $2,500 investment which would set their upvote at $0.0932.

When a person votes, their voting power drops by 2 percent. Voting power regenerates 20% a day; Users should plan on voting ten times a day.

If the account with $2,500 upvoted ten times a day throughout the day, the vote total would distribute about $0.90 a day.

Mulitply 0.9 by 365 and you would see that the account that made a $2,500 investment in HIVE POWER would receive $328.5 in interest!

Half of the rewards goes to the author of a post and half to the curator of the post (the investor).

This is why people buy HIVE power. The interest in HIVE is phenomenal. Yes, half of the interest goes to authors that people support. The author rewards encourages people to interact.

The interest rate is phenomenal. Investors in HIVE will always see their HIVE increase. The catch, of course, is that the price of HIVE fluctuates. Because of the inflation of HIVE, the price of HIVE seems to have a downwards trajectory.

How Much HIVE Should An Account Hold?

The account @irivers has just 2 HIVE POWER. I type 2 in the upvote calculator and see that my upvote is worth 0.0000. This is why I am not upvoting with this account.

There are some magic numbers in the upvote formula. The first has to do with the payout of curation rewards.

HIVE does not pay curation rewards under 0.001. An account needs to have about 60 HP (no make that 70) HP to get curation rewards of 0.001 per post. Such accounts will miss some curation rewards.

In my opinion, an account should have at least 120 HIVE POWER to get a reward on all curated posts.

The second magic number has to do with a scourge called HIVE DUST. HIVE will not pay rewards on posts with less than $0.02 in posts.

A hundred users could upvote a post, but if the total rewards is lower than $0.02, the author would receive no rewards.

When I started using SteemIt with the @yintercept account, I receive rewards on only a quarter of my posts because the posts were routinely under $0.02.

My rewards were all blown away as dust.

I decided that I wanted to have enough HIVE POWER so that my rewards were worth 0.02. This is where the Upvote Calculator comes in.

One can type in figures to determine how much HIVE a person needs to bring a vote value to $0.02 HIVE. On June 23, the amount was 2300 which costs about $575.

I waited until there was a dip in the price of HIVE and bought HIVE with the @yintercept account. This account has enough HIVE so that I can sweep the dust on accounts that I follow.

Yes, I have two accounts. @irivers is a business account that creates daily reviews.

My Thoughts on the Ideal HIVE Strategy

Having investigated the Upvote Calculator on HIVE Now, I concluded that the best HIVE strategy is to buy enough HIVE so that my account stays about $0.02.

If the price drops; one has to buy more. If the price rises, one might sell some HIVE.

This is my Hive Post.

PenguinPablo created a similar site called SteemNow which has an Upvote Calculator for STEEM.
