Monosodium Glutamate is a chemical added to many foods that stimulate the taste buds. Using MSG can make cheaper foods taste better. It magnifies the taste of foods. It makes the flavored chips and crackers spicer. It is in many fast foods. It gives that grilled taste to fried hamburgers. In chicken soup, you can get twice the taste with half the chicken. Unfortunately many people are sensitive to MSG. It is a neuroexciter. People who are sensitive to MSG will have mood swings, depression, exhaustion, fatigue, and edema after eating MSG (sometimes as late as 48 hours after consumption-making it hard to trace). Some people believe that it is dangerous for children. MSG poses an interesting health issue. So we will post some pro and con sites on MSG.
MSG Truth.org (www.msgtruth.org) A site by a former scientist who left the food processing industry to talk about health effects of MSG.
Truth In Labeling (www.truthinlabeling.org) A group that wants correct reporting of MSG on labels. MSG is often labeled "Natural Flavorings."
MSG Myths (www.msgmyth.com) Front Porch Productions asks if migraines, fibromyalgia, or stomach problems are caused by MSG (monosodium glutamate) or aspartame.
