National Association of REALTORS®

The National Association of REALTORS® is a trade association, based in Chicago, of real estate professionals including brokers and agents. The association helps regulate business practices and defines a code of ethics. The group has over a million members.

The association was founded in 1908 as. The trademark on the name "realtor" was first introduced in 1916. That same year the group changed its name to The National Association of Real Estate Boards. The current name was adopted in 1972.

The association was instrumental in creating and regulating Multiple Listing Service (MLS) systems which report on properties for sale in a given area.
