Federal Communications Commission
The Federal Communications Commission was created by the Communications Act of 1934 to broaden the Federal Radio Commission that was created with the Radio Act of 1912 (prompted by the sinking of the Titanic) and broadened by the Radio Act of 1927.
This history page lists events and rulings that I encounter in other research:
- The Radio Act of 1912 established Federal regulation of Radio communications.
- The Radio Act of 1927 gave the Federal Radio Commission the power to grant licenses. It included the "equal-time rule" for political candidates.
- The Communications Act of 1934 created the Federal Communications Commission.
- The Telecommunications Act of 1996 updated regulations for cable TV and other forms for communication.
- 2017-2018: The FCC reviewed the acquisition of Tribune Media by Sinclair Broadcast Group
