Krispy Kreme is a chain offering a premium quality doughnuts. As of Sept 2019, the company had over a thousand shops around the world. They are owned by JAB Holdsings. Their headquarters are in Winston Salem, NC.

In the video Company Man discusses the rise and fall and rise and fall and rise of the company. The company was a favorite of corporate high rollers. However, the high rollers tend to over leverage the brand and cause the site to drop. the video failed to mention that Beatrice fumbled the investment when they owned it.

History of Krispy Kreme

• 1933: Vernon Rudolph and his uncle start selling doughnuts in Paducah, Kentucky based on a recipe from a French chef in New Orleans.
• 1935: The company moved to Nashville, Tennessee and sell doughnuts wholesale to grocery stores.
• 1937: Rudolph opened a doughnut shop in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, called Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
• 195?: The company grew to 29 shops in 12 states.
• 1976: Beatrice Foods Company acquired Krispy Kreme.
• 1982: Joseph A. McAleer, Sr., a franchisee, bought Krispy Kreme in a $22 million leveraged buyout.
• 2000: The company raised $63 million in an IPO on the NASDAQ with the symbol KREM. They had 141 stores in 27 states.
• 2001: The stock moved to the NYSE with the symbol: KKD.
• 2001: I ate a Krispy Kreme doughnut that someone brought to the office.
• 2003: Krispy Kreme acquired Montana Mills Bread Co. for $40 million in stock.
  • 2004: Great Harvest acquired Montana Mills.
• 2007: The first international Krispy Kreme opened in Australia.
• 2009: The SEC issued a "Cease and Disist" against KKD (SEC). KKD expanded too quickly and used a variety of "channel stuffing" schemes to inflate profits at the cost of investors and franchisees.
• 2015: Krispy Kreme opened its 1,000th shop, in Kansas City.
• 2016: JAB Holdings acquired Krispy Kreme in a $1.35 billion deal.
• 2018: Financed by JAB, Krispy Kreme acquired Insomnia Cookies (Business Insider).
