Bruegger's is a restaurant chain that serves bagels and coffee. The company has about 300 restaurants in 26 states. They are a subsidiary of JAB Holdings which owns addition bagel and coffee brands.
Corporate History
The company's corporate history ties in closely with its parent company JAB Holdings.
- 1983: Nordahl Brue and Mike Dressell opened the first store in Troy, NY.
- 1996: Quality Dining acquired the chain for $142 million in stock with Brue and Dressell joining the Quality board of directors.
- 1997: The merger fell apart with Brue and Dressell calling for reorganization of Quality Dining and Bruegger's becoming independent.
- 2003: James J. Greco, financed by Sun Capital Partners acquired Bruegger's from the founders.
- 2009: Bruegger acquired the retail brands of Timothy's World Coffee while Green Mountain Roaster acquired the distribution rights. Purchase include Michel's Baguettes and mmmuffins.
- 2011: The French firm Groupe Le Duff acquired Bruegger's.
