Subsidiaries include the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant chain.

Corporate History

Travelcenters of America spent a few years as a financial football tossed between even larger firms. They have been holding out as an independent stock for the last few years.

• 1972: Phil Saunders established Truckstops of America.
• 1972: Ryder acquired the new chain.
• 1984: Standard Oil of Ohio acquired the chain.
• 1987: British Petroleum acquired Standard.
• 1993: Clipper Group acquired TA.
• 1997: TA merged with National Auto/Truckstops and changed the company's name to TravelCenters of America Inc. (TA).
• 1998: TA purchased seventeen Burns Bros. Travel Stops.

  • 1947: Jack and Bob Burns founded Burns Bros., Inc. (BBI) as a truck stop aligned with Standard Oil.
  • 1995: TA and Burns Bros. formed the TABB fuel network.
• 1999: TA acquired a a dozen units of Travel Ports of America..³

  • 1979: The company was incorporated as Roadway Motor Plazas, Inc.^{2. The contracted fuel from W. Griffith Oil Co., Inc.}
  • 1981: Roadway began developing motels with the Choice Hotel franchise.
  • 1986: Roadway held an IPO on NASDAQ.
  • 1986: Roadway acquired travel plazas from Smoky Mountain Truckstop, Inc. based in of Asheville, North Carolina for $3,346,444.².
  • 1986: Roadway acquired assets from LaBar Enterprises, Inc. of Berwick, Pennsylvania, for $12,990,233.²
  • 1987: Roadway acquired Pecan Shoppe from Harbor Creek, Inc..
  • 1989: Roadway acquired L & G Truckers City, Inc. for $4,252,741 in mortgages.
  • 1991: Roadway changed its name to Travel Ports of America.
• 2006: Hospitality Properties Trust (HPT) acquired TA for about $1.9 billion.
• 2007: HPT/TA acquired assets of Petro Stopping Centers, and leased 40 Petro locations from HPT.
• 2007: TA began selling shares on the American Stock Exchange as a subsidiary of HPT.⁵
• 2014: TA acquired Johnsons Corner Truck Stop in Loveland and made it a Petro.⁷
  1950: Joe S. Johnson opened his station in Loveland.
• 2016: TA's board rejected a buyout offer from Golden Gate Capital.⁶
