Fazoli's Restaurant

Fazoli's is a chain of fast-serve casual Italian restaurants. Many of the stores offer take out and catering. The company had 216 restaurants in October 2019. The site OwnAFazolis.com talks about franchise opportunities.

The concept for the restaurant was developed in 1988 by Jerrico, Inc. of Lexington Kentucky. Jerrico owned Jerry's Restaurant and Long John Silver's fish and chips restaurant. The original menu of Fazoli's emphasized pizza. To avoid the crowded pizzeria market, they decided to emphasize pasta.

In 1989 Castle Harlan and DJS-Inverness led a leveraged buyout to acquire Jerrico and the walls came tumbling down.

In 1990, the franchise VP of Jerrico, Kuni Toyoda, formed a partnership with Duskin Inc. called Seed Restaurant Group. SRG acquired Fazoli's which had 5 restaurants at the time and rolled out a rapid expansion plan. SRG opened their 300th Fazoli's restaurant in 1997.

On October 21, 2006, Sun Capital Partners acquired the chain for $100M. In 2011, SunCapital Partners reported that Fazoli's operates 224 restaurants located in 26 states. It was acquired by Sentinel in 2015. (ref)
