Red Roof

Red Roof Inns is a chain of economy hotel that stand out with red roofs and affordable rooms.

The first Red Roof hotel was built in 1973 by Jim Trueman. The hotel chain was started by Jordan Crowe in 1996. The company went public with the symbol RRI.

The company quickly grew to 322 hotels with 37,005 rooms by 1999 when the chain was acquired by Accor Hotels (which owns Motel 6) in 1999 for $1.1 billion.

Accor sold Red Roof to Westbridge Hospitality Fund by CitiGroup in 2007 for $1.3 billion. Accor rebranded several of the Red Roof motels as Motel 6.
