L3Harris Technologies is a technology firm created by the 2019 merger of L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation. The company its headquartered in Melbourne, Florida. They trade on the NYSE with the symbol LHX.
The companies primary technologies are communications and defense contracts.
Corporate History
As Harris Corporation predates L3 by about a century, I will start the merger chain with Harris.
- 1895: Alfred S. Harris founded Harris Automatic Press Company in Niles, Ohio. Harris developed lithographic processes and printing presses.
- 1957: Harris acquired Intertype Corporation
- 1911: Hermann Ridder, of Ridder Publications, founded company as International Typesetting Machine Company
- 1916: A syndicate acquired the firm and renamed it Intertype Corporation.
- 1957: Harris acquired Gates Radio
- 1959: Harris acquired PRD Electronics of Brooklyn which developed microwave technology.
- 1967: Harris merged with Radiation, Inc. of Melbourne, Florida, which developed antennas and integrated circuits. They kept the Harris name.
- 1978: Harris moved its headquarters to Melbourne, Fl.
- 1969: Harris acquired RF Communications which developed microwave technology.
- 1969: Harris acquired Farinon Electric Corporation which developed microwave technology.
- 1983: Harris spun off its printing assets which became GSS Printing Equipment.
- 1988: Harris acquired the Solid State division of General Electeric. This group included semiconductor assets along with acquired by GE acquisition of RCA.
- 1967: Swiss physicist Jean Hoerni created Intersil to develop integrated circuits for digital watches.
- 1998, Harris sold its commercial and standard military logic (semiconductor) product lines to Texas Instruments
- 1999: Harris spun off Intersil Corporation.
- 2012: Harris sold its broadcast equipment operations to the Gores Group as Harris Broadcast which later became GatesAir.
- 2015: Harris acquired Exelis Inc..
- 2015: NantHealth acquired Harris Healthcare Solutions division.
- 2017: Veritas Capital acquired Harris's government IT services division for $690 million.
- 2018: Harris and L3 Technologies merged to create L3Harris Technologies
History of L3 Technologies
L3 Technologies was created as a spin off with assets from Lockheed Martin and Loral Corporation. The merger included many of the assets that Lockheed acquired in its purchase of Martin Marietta a year early. L3 then engaged in an aggressive acquisition spree.
- 1997: L-3 Communications Holdings was created by Lehman Brothers to acquire assets from Lockheed Martin and Loral Corporation a year after Lockheed merged with Martin Marietta.
- 2000: L3 acquired the Training & Simulation Division of Raytheon Systems Co.. This division was created by Edwin Link, the pioneer of aircraft simulation as Link Simulation and Training. It was acquired by Hughes Aircraft, General Motors and then Raytheon.
- 2001: L3 acquired KDI Precision Products of Batavia, Ohio.
- 2001: L3 acquired Litton Electron Devices from Northrop Grumman to create L3 Electron Devices.
- 2002: L3 acquired Raytheon Aircraft Integration Systems which it rebranded as L3 Integrated Systems.
- 2002: L3 acquired SyColeman Corporation which was created by joining Sy Technologies and Coleman Research Corporation.
- 2002: L3 bought PerkinElmer Detection Systems from PerkinElmer which it rebranded as L-3 Security & Detection Systems.
- 2003: L3 acquired Ship Analytics, Inc..
- 2003: L3 acquired BF Goodrich Avionics.
- 2003: L3 acquired the Military Aviation Services division of Bombardier Aerospace.
- 2004: L3 acquired Cincinnati Electronics of Mason, Ohio.
- 2005: L3 acquired Titan Corp.
- 2005: L3 acquired the Communication Combat Propulsion Systems which had been owned by General Dynamics Land Systems.

- 2017: L3 acquired Open Water Power of Somerville, Massachusetts.
- 2017: L3 acquired ASV Global of Lafayette, Louisiana.
- 2018: L3 acquired Applied Defense Solutions.
- 2019 Elbit Systems of America, a division of the Israeli Elbit Systems purchased Harris's night vision product line for $350 million.
