Cracker Barrel Restaurant
Cracker Barrel is a chain of gift stores and restaurants established by Dan Evins in 1969.
Mr. Evins worked for Shell Oil. The first stores were designed as gift stores connected to gas stations on popular routes with the first store in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Cracker Barrel added restaurants that featured southern cuisine and gradually phased out the gas pumps.
The company went public in 1981 on the NASDAQ with the symbol CBRL. Cracker Barrel grew steadily through the 1980s and reached a market capitalization of $1 billion in 1992.
The company currently operated 645 Cracker Barrel stores in 44 states as of as of September 14, 2017. Its market capitalization was approaching $4b when I created this page in March 2018.
