Men's Wearhouse
Men's Wearhouse is a specialty retailer of men's suits and clothing. The store was founded in 1973 by George Zimmer who saw the need for a store that provided quality men's clothing at affordable prices. Mr. Zimmer often appears the company's TV commercials guaranteeing the quality of the store's offerings.
In 2000, Men's Wearhouse expanded into the tuxedo rental business. You will find MW Tux sections in the majority of its retail locations along with numerous stand alone tuxedo rental locations acquired in the 2006 acquisition of After Hour Formal Wear.
The company's founder served as chief executive officer until 1973. Conflicts with other investors and executives led to his ouster in 2013.
JoS. A. Bank Clothiers
Men's Wearhouse acquired its primary competitor JoS A Banks Clothier in March of 2014 for $1.8 Billion.
Joseph's grandfather, Charles Bank, immigrated in 1866 from Lithuania to Baltimore where he started a tailor business which gradually moved into the manufacturing of men's clothes. Joseph joined the business at age 11. Joseph and his grandfather formally establish the business in 1905.
In 1912, Joseph married Anna Hartz, whose family was in the apparel business. The combined family started L. Hartz and Bank in 1922. In 1945, Joseph and his son Howard bought out the Hartz and changed the store's name to " JoS. A. Bank and Co."
The company expanded its line and launched a catalog in 1960. The company had grown to 11 stores by 1981 when it was purchased by Quaker Oats. Quaker Oats doubled the size of the chain before divesting in 1986. The company began selling franchises in 1992 and became public in 1994 with the symbol JOSB.
Tailored Brands
Men's Wearhouse created the holding company Tailored Brands in 2016 . The company is headquartered in Fremont, Ca. It trades on the NYSE with the symbol TLRD.
On the community development front, Men's Wearhouse runs the annual "National Suit Drive" from September to October. This drive works with local nonprofits to provide interview clothing to men in need. The video shows the ad for the 2008 YouTube.
