The Houston Press has an article called Food Fight by Alison Cook that talks about how the Landry Brother's and friends started a company to serve Cajun cuisine. The initial investors took to in fighting. A real estate investor named Tilman Fertitta bought out the founders and became a billionaire.
- 1947: Alzace Landry started a meat market in Lafayette, La.
- 1972: The Landry brothers (Billy and Floyd Landry) began building restaurants featuring Cajun cuisine.
- 1980: According to the Landry's web site Tilman Fertitta helped open Landry Seafood in Katy, Tx.
- 1981: The company opened Willie G's
- 198?: The Landry's formed a holding company called Pirogue.
- 1986: Pirogue took on Tilman Fertitta, who had been in homebuilding, as a partner. The partners were fighting and Fertitta bought them out for $375,000 a piece.
- 1993: The company went public with a $30 million valuation.

- 1991: Joe's Crab Shack was opened in Houston, Tx.

- 2006: JCS Holdings, LLC. acquired Joe's for $192 million and assumption of of $225 million in liabilities.
- 2009: JCS, which had 130 Joes and 26 Brickhouse Tavern restaurants, changed its name to Ignite Restaurant Group.

- 2013: Ignite acquired Romano's Macaroni Grill from Golden Gate Capital
- 2015: Redrock Partners LLC of Scottsdale purchased Romano's for $8 million.

- 2000: Landry's bought the mall-based Rainforest Cafe which had been established in 1997.

The Chart House History
The Chart House started as a single diner in a converted diner with charts on the tables and pictures on the walls. It grew into a large restaurant conglomerate. It was acquired by Pillsbury and eventually returned to its roots. It is now an upper scale restaurant found in scenic locations.
- 1961: Hawaiian surf legend Joey Cabell and former U.S. Navy frogman Buzzy Bent opened the Chart House in Aspen, Co with a $5,000 investment.
- 1963: the company added restaurants on the Pacific Coast.
- 1974: Bent retired and Cabell returned to surfing, leaving Ron Smith in charge who continued the growth.
- John Creed took over and by 1982 the company had $18.6 M in profit on sales of $383 M.
- 1983: Donald Smith, an executive from PepsiCo took charge. Chart House turned into a conglomerate with over 500 restaurants including the largest Burger King Franchise.
