Great Harvest Bread Company

The Great Harvest Bread Company is a chain of bakeries created by Pete and Laura Wakeman dedicated to fresh whole grain breads.

The pair was selling bread from road side stands in Connecticut before moving to Great Falls, Montana to set up their first store in 1976. The company began a gradual expansion through Montana and Spokane.

Timewise, Great Harvest began selling whole grain breads back when white bread was the norm. Many people had their first nibble of real bread at the Great Harvest bakery.

In 1983, Great Harvest opened a franchise office followed by rapid growth.

Great Harvest gave their franchisees more latitude in operations that most and encouraged the franchisees to become actively involved in the local community.

The Great Harvest web site has nutritional information their breads, a store locator and information on starting your own franchise.
